It’s a hard slog…

I know how hard it is for a business to generate a good Lead. We put the proverbial blood, sweat and tears – and a hell of a lot of phone calls into generating Leads for our clients . The old saying – ‘Every NO is one step closer to being a YES’ – is probably truer in Telemarketing than any other marketing field.

Being smart…

To make our Telemarketing campaigns more effective, we rely on a number of supporting activities…one of which is Email Campaigns. Emails warm the audience up, they help us get the correct decision maker’s details, and they allow us to prioritise our Telemarketing campaigns and focus on those who have looked at what we have sent them – particularly those who have visited the website we signposted them to. In short, I’m all for Email Campaigns!

Lazy, lazy, lazy…

Firstly, I’ll start with saying that I am absolutely fine with being targeted on Email campaigns… I would be a hypocrite otherwise! But…and I’m talking purely from my own personal experience here…I’m getting more and more emails from people prospecting me, with lazy copy and poor targeting. More often than not, the product / service being offered isn’t relevant to me or my business. But, let’s assume for the moment that an email is relevant to me; apparently it’s down to me to read every bit of information, to check out the links they’ve provided (assuming they remembered to!), and email the sender to volunteer my custom. If I don’t reply, I’ll often get another email in a few days time (with a borderline rude tone) saying ‘You haven’t reverted to me’ or ‘ I haven’t seen a reply from you’. I wonder, when did this kind of approach become ‘marketing’?

If someone wants to target me, I’ve got three very simple rules…

  • Get my attention… make the message (email, phone call, whatever) relevant to me – get my attention and show me that you’ve done your homework.
  • Don’t lie… even a little white lie like ‘we spoke a couple of months ago’ might seem harmless, but it’s no basis on which to build trust – and I have a good memory!
  • Put the effort in… if you’ve got something to offer me, pick the phone up and tell me about it. I promise I’ll take your call when I’m available.

In short, if you’ve got something I should be interested in, I’m all ears.

Over to you…
